ALEJANDRO MONGE

Throughout this body of works, Alejandro Monge takes us to witness the prints we leave in the history, very well printed on a rock for it be eventually a reflection of our own society. Monge´s works depict and mean awareness about transcendence, about our legacy as a society that writes its own history.
The artist plays with the human figure portrayed in a vacuum, filled with delicate concave forms on abrupt rocks in diverse colors, thus resembling today´s society. We therefore imagine our potential legacy in this world.
Monge loves making the spectators hesitate about what they see, it is perhaps the artist´s most notorious features in his works. He takes it to another level in this case. The dimension vanishes, perspective converses, emptiness seems filled and confusion arises while a face shows up following us to any immediate destination we dare.
The artist does not want to represent anyone in particular. Therefore, he uses an interracial face as an excuse to urge us to talk about our legacy as humans.
Like rocks gradually worn away by the wind, this body of works talks about the time. Monge uses wind as a material. It is why the pieces feel filled. What is it filled with? Why do we feel it while observing a hollow of a rock?
